Welcome

This collection of resources is designed to support BAEd, PGCE and GTP Students (and their Tutors) as they work towards achievement of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) - although others may find them useful too. The materials here are in part derived from series of lectures I gave to BAEd and PGCE students during my time in the Institute (formerly School) of Education at the University of Reading, and draw on my teaching experience in Secondary, Special and Primary Schools in London. I hope you find these materials useful; if you have any questions or wish to suggest additional content, email me at p.carmichael@learntolearn.ac.uk.

What You Will Find Here

There are a number of introductory readings, a 'toolkit' of resources and assessment materials, and a set of 'modules' each of which deals with an aspect of ICT in Primary Education. There are also a number of free-standing projects and examples which I have used over the past few years with BAEd, PGCE and MA students and which presuppose a slightly higher level of ICT expertise. The resources are rounded off with some readings on the use of ICT in classroom research, originally developed to support students undertaking dissertations and projects.

Modules

Each of the Modules in this course has three main components

  1. Introduction - including aims, references to 'standards' documents, software requirements and assessment opportunities
  2. Reading material and links to other resources
  3. Activities, some of which link to the assessment opportunities in the introduction

Projects

Using ICT to Support Research

A Word on Assessment

The activities listed in each module are suggestions, some of which may be identified by your tutor as course requirements which may then be assessed formally. At the same time, they are all designed to be 'non-trivial' tasks which will strengthen either your understanding of IT and pedagogical issues, or add to a portfolio of evidence, or both.

For example: "Task 1-3: Identifying Subject Support and Resources", in which you have a ramble around the subject-specific educational resources available online, will give you ideas about sources of information, but can also provide you with a nice portfolio-fattening collection of printouts.
